Welcome House September 2017

Recently we took part in a Treasure Hunt during our Sunday gathering and we didn't even need to leave our seats, however we did have to change the venue at the very last minute as Alfonso had a lay in after a late evening the day before!

Welcome House poster SeptNo matter, it just added to the adventure and everyone got to see Jean and Andrews's cabin in the making.

Our subject was everyday sayings that actually have been taken from scripture. Everyone took part and gave us clues to their particular saying, while we puzzled over the answers.

The point is that non-Christians and Christians alike often quote scripture without even realising it.

I challenge you to think of something you might often say like 'eat drink and be merry' or 'a leopard doesn't change his spots' and I will be surprised if you can't find it in scripture.

The Bible is full of hidden treasures and is as relevant in our everyday lives today as it was when it was written over two thousand years ago.

In Matthew 13, Jesus talks about God's kingdom being like hidden treasures. You might have to dig before you can find it and even give up everything you have to get it.

We are God's treasure, but long ago in the garden of Eden we were lost to sin, but John 3:16 tells us that God loved us so much that He sent His one and only son to die for us that we might be saved. Jesus paid the price for us because God wanted to welcome us back into His kingdom, so we now have the opportunity of once again being God's treasure.

In another verse, Jesus talks about storing your treasures in heaven, not here on earth; Matthew 6:19

After all there's no pockets in a shroud!
