W.A.R.M. - Walkers Around the Region of Murcia June 2017

April saw the final two walks of the current season (it's also been the only month that's included four walks). We had outings on the last two Saturdays – the 22nd and 29th.

warm Juan SkiingSat 22-April: the very famous Juan from Moratalla (He really is an excellent ambassador for Moratalla!) led us up to the summit of the highest point in the whole of the Murcia region – El Pico del Obispo in the Revolcadores range of mountains.

We totalled 16: 6 Brits, 6 Spanish, 2 Americans, 1 German + 1 Dutch, for the more than 700mtr ascent after leaving our car park above Inazares. At 2015mtr above sea level all we could see from the top were other summits, although on this occasion the clouds blocked our views of the snow-capped peak Almuhacen in the Sierra Nevada range above Granada (I can't believe I just typed "Grandad"!). At the trig warm Selva Full Flightpoint (Vértice Geodésico) there's a letter box! We took great fun, fingers trembling in the cold wind, in signing our names under the WARM logo of our 'post' and the recently placed Spanish flag. From here can be seen 4 'close' Spanish provinces: Murcia, Jaen, Granada, Albacete and also (blocked out by the mountains) Almería.

Sat 29-April: Bridget and Bob brought up the rear of the season (she'll object to that!) with her route on the side of the Sierra de Cerezo that overlooks Moratalla.

Although it didn't actually happen in April (once again the rain interfered for a record 6th time this season!) and we had to postpone to the following Saturday - 6th May. The weather was beautiful and we took our time climbing over 450mtr warm Judy & Tonyuphill, exploring every nook and cranny (note the photo of Romeo and Juliette!).

It warmed up considerably for the descent and the dogs weren't the only ones who were grateful for a good supply of water. Afterwards (it being the 'End of Term' walk) we had to have a 'Graduation Ball' of course, to celebrate the end of a wonderful season of walking.

warm No Ball GownsShortly I shall be doing the annual deleting of all names from the circulation list – nothing personal! Could anyone who wishes to keep their name on for next season, reply to me by the deadline please.

None of it would be possible without the wonderful volunteer walk leaders. They've given me fantastic support in my 'virgin' year of coordinating.

For those on the mailing list more photos can be seen on the WARM Facebook page.
Full details of future outings will be sent automatically to those who are already on the WARM mailing list, normally about a fortnight ahead. As always, if there is anyone who would like their email address to be added to the mailing list then please contact me (Jessica) on This email address is being protected from spambots.
