W.A.R.M. - Walkers Around the Region of Murcia April 2017

I don't know, the minute I pop over to Britain everything turns upside-down! The weather was beautiful over there – nice and dry and sunny.

warm OutsetSadly, as you all know far better than me, there seems to have been a bit of a meteorological swap and yet again beautiful WARM walks have 'bitten the dust' because of the downpours. Poor Carla and Douwe and Judy and Tony; both couples have already been 'rain victims' this season and must be feeling pretty miffed.

warm Lost and FoundThere's a beautiful 8km walk around the Sierra de Quípar (west of Cehegín) and on Sat 25th February, Patricio & Ramón decided that they would introduce us all to this area that borders the Sierra de las Cabras and a zone called La Encarnación. Luckily they had chosen the only dry weekend of the month! They created an all-time record of attracting 55 people (and 3 dogs) to the walk and thankfully we didn't lose anybody, even though I tried! (oops - must pay better attention when I'm back-marking!) I'm not sure whose idea it was to play charades (with fancy dress) in the restaurant afterwards, but judging by the faces of our co-diners, it seems as though everyone was enjoying the unexpected entertainment. It was a good job really, because the food left a little to be desired now that our standards have risen so high, so I shan't be naming names this month!

warm Leaving el Estrecho de la EncarnacionThe Sierra de Oro overlooks our house and Carla and Douwe's expedition to its summit and the Collado de Portazgo (the pass at the top where historically a price for taking merchandise over the mountain – portazgo - was exacted) was fixed for another rainy weekend (Saturday March 4th) and had to be cancelled. Similarly, Judy and Tony's walk for Saturday 18th March (the "3 rivers" walk near Moratalla, via the ancient site of Bolvonegro) would have been too risky after the recent storms. Hopefully both can be re-scheduled for some time in the near future when calm returns to Murcia's North West.
Walks scheduled for the coming few weeks:

Thurs 13th April: George and David - Cehegín (note change of date)

Sat 22nd April: Juan - Inazares (another route that's been on the wish list for a long time)

All 3 photos were taken from this month's only remaining walk; Patricio and Ramón's route around the Sierra del Quípar.

For those on the mailing list, more photos can be seen on the WARM Facebook page.

Most of our walks are in the Northwest of the region and full details will be circulated automatically, normally about a fortnight ahead. As always, if there is anyone who would like their email address to be added to the mailing list then please contact me (Jessica) on: This email address is being protected from spambots.
