Have you had any good dreams recently?
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Word. That means He likes to talk! He has a lot to say and there is no point in talking away if there is no-one listening.
Jesus said that His sheep know Him and they hear His voice, yet sometimes we still have trouble hearing Him. That is why, when we are fast asleep and our minds are not distracted by other things, or our ears filled with other sounds, Jesus may give us a dream.
There are different types of dreams. Some are ordinary dreams that get rid of the rubbish in your mind so that you can begin afresh the next day. Some are healing dreams, helping you overcome fears and negative experiences of your past and some are messages from the Lord. His dreams encourage us, instruct us, direct us and correct us.
Job 33:14-16 For God may speak in one way, or in another; yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction.
Dreams are pictures. They are a message given in symbolic form. The symbols are not always obvious in their meaning.
For example, when Peter dreamt of a whole load of animals coming down in a sheet, would you have guessed it meant that the gospel message is not just for the Jews, but for everyone?
When a butler dreamt of crushing grapes from three vine branches into the king's cup, would you have guessed it meant that in three days he would be freed from prison and given his job back?
Not all dreams are a message from God, but those that are can be interpreted from meanings found in the Bible, or by asking the Holy Spirit for the interpretation.
