Terra Natura
How many times do you have friends or relatives coming over for a visit and you are looking for somewhere new to take them for a visit? I recently had some friends over with their kids and we were looking at some where different to take them. Another friend suggested taking them to Terra Natura in Murcia, so we looked on the internet and discovered how to get there and what the opening hours were.Terra Natura has been open for nearly a year now, and is situated close to the E7 motorway. Access to the park is very easy. You take junction 136 (Murcia University junction) and follow the signs to the park. Once at the park, you can hire buggies for the children, which is a good idea if they don't like walking as there is a lot of walking to do and some of it is up hill. You can also hire scooters which is also a good idea if you have visitors who might struggle with all the walking.
When you buy your tickets at the entrance you can also buy pots of seeds and fruit and vegetables to feed to the animals. I recommend this, as you will really miss out around the park if you don't have them.
Inside the park there are lots of different animals to see, including zebra, ostriches, deer, bears, hippos, giraffes, birds of prey and many others. All the animals have nice big enclosures to live in and you can get very close to the animals, which is great. At the giraffe enclosure you can feed them some of your fruit and vegetables. This is great fun! There were three giraffes there who took whatever fruit and vegetables we had for them - you are not allowed to feed them your own food; it must be food purchased at the park.
Also at the park are deer that you can feed. They have two enclosures that they live in with gateways for them to walk along the path with you and to wander between the enclosures. If you have bought the seeds at the park entrance, you can then feed the deer. This is good fun for the kids (and adults!); once they realize that the deer aren't going to bite them!
If you run out of food for the animals then you can always go back to the park entrance to buy some more.
There are picnic areas around the park for you to eat your own food, or there are kiosks and a restaurant if you'd rather not take a picnic. The park opens at 10am every morning. Closing time will depend on the time of the year. During the winter it will close at 5pm, whereas in the summer it will stay open until 8pm.
Situated next to the zoo is the waterpark, Agua Natura. The waterpark closes during the winter months, but will open again at the beginning of June. There is a selection of slides for both adults and children.
If you would like more information on either Terra Natura or Agua Natura, you can visit their website on www.terranatura.com where you can change the language into English.
