Mazarrón Bowls Club June 2017

Several of our members surpassed themselves this year in the Champion Of Champions Finals which were held in mid-April.

mazarron bowls Helen Chambers finalistHelen Chambers, Ladies' Singles Champion at MBC for the last 3 years, progressed through to the Ladies' Final. She also played in the Mixed Triples, Ladies' Pairs and Mixed Pairs with her husband, Mike Chambers. However on finals day, she just couldn't pull another win out of the bag. Our congratulations go to her for the superb season she has had and for all her achievements at MBC.

Gordon Tottey and Brian Robertson reached the semi-finals of the Men's Pairs and we again congratulate them on progressing so far in the competition.

At the Champion of Champions, all the winners of the various Club championship disciplines from different clubs compete at the Regional finals. This includes Spanish National Players and our players are to be congratulated on their achievements against such competition.

mazarron bowls Richard Cooper Trophy winners 2017More recently in May, we held the 2nd Richard Cooper Trophy Competition. This was played as a Knockout Two Wood Nominated Pairs match over 12 ends. Again, two of our top players Brian Robertson and 'new boy' Billy Faulkner dominated the rink with their impressive win over George Thomson and John Erskine to win the trophy for 2017. It was nice to see Julie Cooper at the match to present the trophy.
The Spanish Nationals were held the last 2 weeks of May so the report on how well our members did will be reported next month.

Forthcoming events at MBC in June include the President Versus Captain Match and the John Smith Trophy which is played as Australian Pairs.

A BBQ & Quiz is being planned for late summer and then, come September, the Championships start again.

Firstly however, at the end of May we will have had an EGM to elect a new Club Captain.

The membership at MBC is continuing to grow with new members, having read about our activities, now wishing to try this sport. Don't forget MBC always welcome new members and you are very welcome to come along on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, 10.00am for a 10.30am start. You will be given a warm welcome and an opportunity to try the game.
