On a very warm and sunny Monday morning in July, the remaining members, (not away on holiday cruising somewhere in milder climes), took to the fairways of that wonderful course Condado de Alhama.
As usual, the course was in immaculate condition and under the bright sunshine it appeared as an oasis of fertile green. The fairways looked better than the greens on some other courses. Congratulations and thanks to the Green Keeper and his Staff.
With the average age of our membership keeping government pension actuaries worrying about future payments, it was decided to keep the energy requirement within tolerable levels. Therefore the format for the day was a Texas Scramble, with the trophy on offer being sponsored by The Great Golf Company Balsicas. As usual, competition between the teams was very competitive, with only 5 points at the final results covering all teams.
Huge congratulations to everyone, with a special "Well Done Lads" to the winning team, skippered by Neil MacFarlane, ably supported by Kevin Jones, Don Mallet and Dave Perry. The team completed their round without dropping a shot, returning a 4 under par gross 68. Their 10% handicap reduction gave them a final score of 60.7.
Our day also included a Nearest the Pin competition, this time sponsored by Luz del Sol. After thorough investigation, with no greens being 85 metres wide or deep, several measures were dismissed. A well deserved trio of Kevin Jones, Roy Quigley and Alan Benton, with great shots that would have been worthy of TV cameras, were awarded NTP winners.
As many of the followers of the Los Reyes Golf Society will know, our English name, 'The Kings', is an acronym of Kids In Need Golf Society. Apart from providing enjoyable golf for our members, our raison d'etre, is to help kids in need. A major part of our efforts to raise money is our annual Open Day competition in October. This year, due to exceptional medical reasons, it has been decided, with much regret, to take a sabbatical year with regard to the Open Day event. To all the people who look forward to and support this day, we promise we will be back next year. However our normal fund raising, via sponsors, raffles and auctions, will continue as normal and we look forward to once again bringing a little bit of happiness to the sick and needy children within our region.
