After beautiful weather at the beginning of March, our visit to Aguilon on the 13th was really looked forward to by everyone.
Unfortunately 13 turned out to be very unlucky for us and by the time our first tee time approached the heavens opened up by the proverbial bucket load.
As we are 'Sun on our backs' golfers, it was a unanimous decision to postpone the event. This turned out to be a great decision as by the 21st the Sun had made a comeback. With the date change, some members were unable to join us, but we were very happy to welcome some guests, two for which, were in awe of the layout and condition of the course, itself a great credit to 'JJ' the course director and his staff.
All in all, the individual performances were up to standard, as were the excuses; missed putts all down to "The greens were like lightening"; wayward drives "Fancy putting a bunker there" etc.
Overall winner with 35 points was Lenny Whalen, followed closely by Neil MacFarlane. Congratulations to both and special mention to Terry Adams who played with one arm tied behind his back and had left his glasses at home - well that's his excuse!!
We ran NTPs on all par 3s and with the very still conditions, this proved to be very competitive.
Dave Bullimore (guest), Daniel Hawk (Guest) Ray Reynolds, Kevin Jones and Harry Pearson.
This month's competition was sponsored by TJ Electrical, Camposol B. A big thank you to Jeff and Tracey and the boys for their support towards our 'Kids in Need Golf Society' charity works. For people who don't know our society, last year we raised nearly €6,000 for the sick and needy children in our area.
Hacienda del Alamo 10th April
A welcome return of beautiful golfing weather saw Los Reyes at the fantastic Hacienda course and players were greeted with a cup of coffee and a bacon baguette.
The format for the day was a 'Yellow Ball' team event, with the winning team having achieved the highest combined Stableford score. Players take turns with a special yellow ball and the points scored on the hole are doubled. If the team's yellow ball is lost, so does the chance to double a player's score. The main thing about the whole event was to enjoy the day, which all players agreed had been achieved 100%.
The winners, with a magnificent combined Stableford score of 135 was the team lead by Glenn Read, ably assisted by Allen Evans, Andy Paul and Jack Stockdale.
The day was sponsored by the Great Golf Company, Balsicas. The GGC Trophy, was presented to the winning team by Terry Adams.
Nearest the Pin, sponsored by the Costa Cálida Chronicle, was also held on all par 3 holes, with some incredibly close efforts at holes designed for players of almost professional standard. Congratulations to Frank Middleton, Neil MacFarlane and Harry Pearson
