Environmental Impact

The environmental impacts of illegal dumping are significant.

Dumped rubbish can leak contaminants into the Campo harming the plants and animals that live there and blight the landscape. When it rains, illegally dumped rubbish can affect drainage of run-off water making areas more susceptible to flooding when rubbish blocks ramblas, creeks, culverts and drainage basins.

Rodents, insects and other vermin are attracted to illegal dump sites and may pose health risks. These sites provide popular breeding grounds for flies, cockroaches and mosquitoes. Mosquitoes in particular can multiply 100 times faster than normal in the warm, stagnant water that collects in dumped rubbish.

gardeners or other tradespeople - make sure you know where your waste will go.
