At the time of writing this the weather is still very hot, but we mustn’t complain as this is one of the reasons we are here although it does seem to have been exceptionally hot this summer. A lot of people are now getting their villas back to themselves after the summer visitors who we love to see, but give a sigh of relief in some cases when they have returned back to the UK. It was nice for the organisers of the Welcome Group to have a bit of a break in August, as it was just too hot to hold any functions, although the Fun Petanca on the evening of Wednesday 26 August went ahead with 36 people turning up to join in. This is proving very popular and the tickets for the Members Only Competition on 21 October are now on sale at 7€ to include food. The first of our sell-out September Dances took place on Friday 4th at Mariano’s Restaurant with 220 people enjoying the humour and fantastic singing voice of Nick Gold who had come over from the UK just for this night. Nick has now gone back to the UK to take up teaching music and we will certainly miss him, but hopefully he will be able to fit a trip back here in 2010. By the standing ovation he received after singing the much requested Nessun Dorma he knows he will always be welcome back. Also on the bill were two guys, Pat & Ricky who have started up doing a tribute to the Beatles. These also proved a popular choice on the evening, with everyone remembering many of the great songs sung back in the 60´s by the fab four. Then on stage was the amazing lady who won the Costa Blanca Tribute 2008 and was also a finalist when she appeared in the UK on Stars in your Eyes as Tina Turner. Lorraine studied Tina Turner for nearly 2 years before she was confident enough to carry out this tribute and by the standing ovation she received, it had certainly paid off. Not only did she look like her, but had the most amazing voice and certainly had the dance floor packed for the hour that she was on stage. Lorraine was quite overcome by the reception she received and said she would be delighted to come back in 2010. Nick finished off the evening with some great dance music and everyone agreed it was a great night of first class entertainment for 10€. Thanks for all your lovely emails.

It was a busy couple of days for us as we had the meeting on the following day with a packed room. Nice to speak to some lovely people who had come along for the first time to see what Welcome was all about. We have had a request from someone who wants to attend our functions, but lives at Totana and is asking if there is anyone from that area that would share the driving for certain functions. If you could give Maureen or Rosemary a ring they will pass your details to them.

We will also have more information and taking names for the May 2010 trip to Madrid.
We would just like to remind people that the Welcome Group does not sell tickets on the door at any of its functions. All our tickets have to be purchased in advance. We do have a dress code and tables can be reserved.
