ANN,KEN
Despite the credit crunch, burglaries and all the other problems people are having to put up with at the moment, the order of the night at the March Cabaret in Mariano’s Restaurant was definitely laughter. Alan Wallace who is on the Thomson Gold Hotels circuit, travelled up from the Costa del Sol to be one of the entertainers on this evening. His playing of the Shadows’ medley on the guitar was quite outstanding and he even gave us a great tune on the bagpipes. Great sports in the audience as only the brave people got up during his act; his standing ovation was well deserved. We were disappointed though as on the Friday afternoon the night before the event we received a phone call from the agent of the Tina Turner Tribute to say that Lorraine who was doing the tribute was suffering from a badly infected throat and had been ordered by her doctor to rest for at least a month. Despite this, we were on the case and many, many thanks to Kay C & Emma B who agreed to travel down and provide a first class tribute act along with the lovely Jane Woodward from Benidorm, who was also suffering with a bad throat. Great feedback after the night, that despite the absence of the Tina Turner Tribute, the evening was a great success. As we said on the night, obviously we hope the Tina Turner Tribute will take place later in the year, so please keep your tickets as you will get priority when the tickets go on sale, but we will let you know. All the ladies were given a gift to say Happy Mother’s Day and thanks to Margaret & Cherry for handing them out. Many congratulations to Ken & Ann who were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary on the night and Ann you must have definitely been a child bride!

We certainly ordered the weather for the annual Treasure Hunt which took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 5 April. After completing the course 104 people sat outside at La Molata Social Club, enjoying the sunshine and splendid buffet provided by Gill & Chris’s Pantry. The overall winners on the day were Geoff, Margaret, Chris & Nicky who received beautiful hampers full of goodies. Runners up were Brian, Chris, Pete, Shirley & Carol who received 12 bottles of lovely wine. Great effort on the day from Jim & Pam who covered the course on their own and although the lowest scorers received 4 bottles of wine. Congratulations to them, as on the day they were celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary; also to Geoff who was celebrating his birthday. Many thanks to Jim & Paul for all their hard work beforehand in organising the treasure hunt and to the staff at La Molata for their generosity & hospitality.

We had a packed room again for our April Meeting and really nice to see so many new people coming along and staying afterwards for a chat. It was nice to see some of our German Ladies who came along to our Ladies’ Evening and then joined us for the meeting. The Ladies’ Day tickets for 3 June went on sale from the meeting and have now sold out and we have also sold out for the 3 days (2 nights) Benidorm trip on 12-14 Oct. We only have 6 tickets left for the Masked Summer Ball taking place on 24 June, (balance of cost to be paid please by 2 May Meeting). Please contact us for details. Don’t forget it is always worth putting your name down on a waiting list for any of the events as people do have to change their plans for whatever reasons.
Zoe from Simply Networking (www.simplynetworking.es) came along to the meeting and gave a short talk on all the useful information she is providing on the web site and told us about events going on over the Easter period which everyone found very informative. Thanks Zoe, you are certainly doing a great job, keep up the good work. It is so nice now to hear about things that are happening well in advance and not when they are all over.
