Welcome

June 2009

How delighted we were to welcome back for our April Dance the sensational Karen Noble after 4 years.

K-3
Karen did her first singing spot totally classical, which included her version of Nessun Dorma, which was quite unbelievable. Karen also covered some of Barbara Streisand’s hits which had been specially requested. Her second spot was great dance music, so had the dance floor packed. Since Karen was last with us, she has been touring UK, Europe and Australia with her ‘Dusty Show’, plus singing to the British troops overseas; a lovely lady with an amazing voice and it was such a joy to see her back here and we wish her well in her packed year ahead.
SWW-1
On the night, we also introduced the four guys who make up Showaddywaddy Legend blasting out great hits from this group plus many other dance tunes. One of the two spots they did, included costumes and make up, covering songs from the Village People, which was really funny and certainly Thomas dressed in his sailor uniform and singing ‘In the Navy’ got a great laugh. A night of first class entertainment which from the emails and thanks we have had, was very much appreciated.

We have a change to our programme for 4 September Dance. This dance will now be inside at Mariano’s Restaurant and we will be introducing the Tina Turner Tribute. On the same night, first class entertainment will also be provided by the sensational singing voice of Nick Gold, who was very popular when he appeared here last November for the first time. There will also be another act on the same night (tba.) Tickets are 10€ with the usual light supper for 5€ extra as an option. Tickets for this will go on sale firstly from 6 June Meeting. As we said previously, people who attended the March Cabaret Night, because of the cancellation of the Tribute, will be offered the tickets first, before going on general sale. If you attended the March Dance and cannot come along to the meeting for tickets, please contact us on either of the numbers shown below.

Thanks to Zoë from Simply Networking who again attended our May Meeting and told everyone about activities, events & fiestas etc. that were happening in the area during the month of May. Simply Networking is certainly proving to be a very informative and popular web site.

CORDOBA-044
Our Cordoba Trip which took place from 12 to 14 May proved a great hit with everyone. It was an ideal time to go as the Festival of the Patios 2009 was on during our stay. This is definitely worth seeing as the Spanish really go to town in decorating up their patios, courtyards, balconies and rajas. The plants and colours are quite spectacular and they take great pride in doing this for people to enjoy. The city of Cordoba is quite spread out so plenty of walking, as the streets are very narrow, so difficult for cars etc. The Hotel Conquistador & Hotel Ciudad de Cordoba were excellent and many thanks go to our fantastic driver, Alfonso for providing a taxi service!! Thanks to everyone who came along and made it once again a very enjoyable trip.

Book/Jigsaw Swap dates for Tuesdays in June are 9 and 23 at 10am to 12 noon. There will then be a summer break resuming again on Tuesday 8 September, so make sure you have plenty of summer reading. Some sad news, owing to personal reasons, Ann & Roy have decided to call it a day in the running of the Sundance Line Dancers Group. Their last class will take place on Thursday 25 June. We would like to take this opportunity of wishing them both well and thank them for all their enthusiasm and hard work.

Our next meeting takes place on Saturday 6 June at 2pm Mariano’s Restaurant, Camposol. Tickets will be on sale from this meeting for 4 September Dance. At time of going to press (15/5) tickets are on sale for 20 July Dance outside at Mariano’s with the very popular Beagles and the lovely Emma B (who is appearing here for the first time on her own). Tickets are 8€ with the option of a light supper for 5€ extra. All June events have now sold out plus the October trip to Benidorm with two coaches going. Will John & Tania King who have put their names down for the Benidorm trip, please contact us.

The Welcome Group would like to express their condolences to Mick & Mavis in the sad loss of the lovely Stella. Stella was such a charming lady and we will certainly miss her coming over and attending the dances. On a brighter note though we would like to send many congratulations to Vivian & Carol who recently became engaged and are to be married on 8 August. Having met at a Welcome Dance two years ago, we are delighted and wish them great happiness.
